The Fall of Battlestar Galactica

July 17, 2009

I watched the new version of Battlestar Galactica since the introductory miniseries aired in 2003. I didn’t initially expect much, but the show was great at times, and something I almost always looked forward to. That is, until it started collapsing under the weight of its own ambitions.

Watching the last season of Battlestar Galactica often felt like homework. I’d see it sitting there on my DVR queue and avert my eyes. But I’d long since gotten over the bitter taste of the show’s failure when I ran across this article.

Ah, the memories come rushing back.

The article concerns itself with what is accurately referred to as a “mega essay” by one Brad Templeton, which asserts that Battlestar Galactica had the worst ending of any on-screen sci-fi story, ever. I admit I couldn’t bring myself to read the essay itself, as it is realllllllly long and detailed. But I’m comforted by the fact that it exists.
